Guest seminar with Professor Werner De Bondt

On 7 June, Professor Werner De Bondt, Driehaus College of Business, DePaul University, Chicago, will give a seminar at JIBS titled "The behavioral revolution in finance". The seminar is open to the public, and we now welcome all staff and students at Jönköping University to take this chance to listen to one of the founders in the field of behavioral finance.

Professor Werner De Bondt

Werner De Bondt studies the psychology of investors and financial markets and helped define the field of behavioral (or psychological) finance long before it became popular. His work has been published in numerous top academic journals, and he is a frequent speaker to academics and investment professionals around the globe.

During a visit to JIBS on 5-8 June, Professor De Bondt will give an open seminar titled "The behavioral Revolution in Finance".

What is behavioral finance?

Behavioral finance took off in the early 1980s. The theory asserts that when making financial decisions like investing, people are not nearly as rational as traditional finance theory predicts. Instead, people often make financial decisions based on emotions and cognitive biases rather than being rational and calculating. Behavioral finance examines the psychology of financial decision-making.

You could imagine the stock market as a person: It has mood swings (and price swings) that can turn on a dime from irritable to euphoric; it can overreact hastily one day and make amends the next. But can human behavior really help us understand financial matters? Does analyzing the mood of the market provide us with any hands-on strategies? Behavioral finance theorists suggest that it can.

What is learned? Welcome to take part in Professor Werner De Bondt's research and findings.
