Family ownership is a defining feature of family firms, yet research has predominantly focused on the family and their owned enterprises, neglecting the role of external audiences’ perceptions in shaping a family’s ownership. This study examines how ownership manifests in the aesthetics of a family firm’s activities and outcomes, and how external audiences recognize and judge these expressions. Using a qualitative single case study of a family firm and its organizational artifacts, this research aims to develop a construct to capture external audiences’ reactions to family ownership. Hoping to develop a construct that complements psychological ownership, I want highlight the reciprocal relationship between family firms and their environments on a human-centered basis that emphasizes our bodily condition.</p>
