Banned Books Week at the library

During Banned Books Week, which occurs 7–11 October, free speech and everyone's right to read is recognised all over Sweden. The University Library has an exhibition where you can see examples of books that are or have been banned in various parts of the world for political, religious or moral reasons.

Banned Books Week is organised by the network Banned Books Week: Sweden, which is coordinated by Swedish PEN and the Dawit Isaak library in Malmö. This year's theme is banned books in Sweden, Iran, and China.

The library's exhibition

The library's exhibition features a collection of books that are or have been banned in various parts of the world. Each book in the exhibition is accompanied by a note providing information about where and why it has been banned. While you can borrow books from the exhibition, please wait until the end of the week so that more people have the opportunity to see them first.

You can also find examples of banned books on our social media, make sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook.
