LoRDYA (Longitudinal Research on Development to Young Adults)
The project is based on already collected material in the research project LoRDIA (Longitudinal Research on Development In Adolescence), 2011–2019. Two year-cohorts of young people (n = 1884) are followed from 18 to 25 years of age through various institutional sources, such as files and registers. Particular focus is placed on those who have been severely exposed during childhood and adolescence. The project has two parts.
Part 1 examines society's ability to detect and support vulnerable children. In the social services´ files, we examine the extent to which exposed young people have been reported and have been the subject of interventions before the age of 18. In registers, we follow their development in mental health and social adaptation up to the age of 25. Research questions in this part are:
- How do children's self-reporting of maltreatment and behavioral problems correspond with the reports to the social services?
- What is the process from reports to investigation and intervention? What problems are sorted out during the process, i.e. what problems do social services try to deal with and which are written off? (Is the process characterized by people-processing or people-changing?)
Part 2 examines through records how growing up conditions in the broader sense are associated with later outcomes in adult life (work capacity, care consumption, crime, etc.) for men and women respectively.
