Top three in the world for twenty years

Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) at Jönköping University has been ranked among the top three in the world for twenty years in the field of family business and ownership research. Research in this area is primarily conducted today at the Centre for Family Entrepreneurship and Ownership (CeFEO), founded in 2005.

In the latest study on family business research, "The evolution of the field of family business research over a decade (2012–2022)", CeFEO ranks third in the world, following Lancaster University and WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management. Seven of the top 50 scholars in the field are affiliated with CeFEO. The study is based on all publications in the three databases: Business Source Premier, Web of Science, and Scopus.

"We are delighted to be among the absolute top in the world regarding research on family business and ownership. JIBS and CeFEO have consistently been identified over the years as one of the leading research environments not only in Europe but worldwide," says Massimo Baù, Senior Associate Professor and Director CeFEO.

"Academic excellence and practical relevance"

Since its foundation, CeFEO follows the steering idea of combining "academic excellence and practical relevance." This mission means combining rigorous academic research at the international frontier, which is the creation and diffusion of knowledge practically relevant for companies, organizations, and individual stakeholders with an interest in ownership and family business issues.

Although it has a specific focus on ownership and issues related to family businesses, researchers associated with CeFEO also conduct extensive and significant research on topics such as strategy, organization, accounting, entrepreneurship, innovation, and internationalization, contributing to the research profile of Jönköping University and JIBS.

CeFEO has over 60 scholars and 30 affiliated researchers, as well as a large number of visiting scholars.
