Culturally Empowering Education through Language and Literature (CuEEd-LL)
The graduate school Culturally Empowering Education through Language and Literature - CuEEd-LL is a national research school. The overarching purpose of the school is to strengthen teacher education by studying and developing culturally empowering education through language and literature.
CuEEd-LL is led by Jönköping University in collaboration with the University of Gothenburg, Malmö University, Stockholm University, (University of Borås - affiliated) The project is funded by The Swedish Research Council.
The purpose of the graduate school is to:
- strengthen Swedish teacher education by studying and developing culturally empowering education through language and literature
- to support equitable, high-quality education and participation in a globalised and digitised world.

LIKED
The graduate school LIKED is based on the assumption that the digitalization of society results in challenges and opportunities for learning and education that require changes - from current to future methods.
From a lifelong learning perspective, one effect of digitalization is that we need to understand which tasks can and should be taken over or facilitated by technical artifacts and which should be performed by humans. This has implications for what should be taught in school, which tools students should be introduced to and supported to master.
LIKED will address the following broadly formulated areas:
- How does the digitalization of society change the conditions for teaching and learning in general, and activities aimed at providing competence to manage everyday life in a digitalized society?
- How can these competencies be described, analyzed and understood in terms of learning, interaction and knowledge in a digitized world?
- How can modern digital forms of interaction and automated learning systems, based on artificial intelligence and machine learning, be understood in terms of new learning opportunities to support students and teachers?
- What impact does social media have on everyday life at school as a whole, for individual children and young people in general?
- What does a changed practice and culture mean for the conditions for learning, interaction and knowledge in society and in school?

Research School for Folk High School Teachers
The research school is part of a governmental investment in developing the scientific basis of teaching in Swedish folk high schools.
The research school aims to contribute with practical knowledge about folk high schools. The licentiate projects within the research school are thus expected to be conducted in close relation to the teachers' work and teaching practice.
The research school aims for a licentiate degree and has a total of 12 doctoral students. They study part-time (50% of full time) and work part-time as teachers. The research school started in autumn 2021 and offers a basic package of joint courses and seminars. Research School in Adult Learning
The research school aims to strengthen today's weak research connection to Swedish teacher education in terms of research and knowledge about adult learning. Partly by providing teacher education institutions with research-trained staff with knowledge about adult learning in relation to two educational institutions: the municipal adult education (Komvux) and the folk high school. Partly by contributing research-based practical knowledge about teachers' didactic work in these contexts.

UPGRADE
UPGRADE – Teacher Education and the Digitalization of the School System, is a national research school funded by the Swedish Research Council. The aim of the research school is to strengthen the digital competence in teacher education and increase the number of teacher educators with a doctoral degree.
The following nine universities particiapte in the research school: Umeå University (host university), KTH Royal Institute of Technology, University of Gothenburg, University of Gävle, University of Halmstad, Jönköping University, Linnaeus University, Mid Sweden University, and University West.
UPGRADE will address the following broadly formulated areas:
- How are teacher students prepared for a digitalized school?
- How does teacher training prepare teacher students to integrate and use technology in their various teacher education programs?
- How can teacher education be further developed and incorporate methods that better include digital technology throughout the teacher education and across content areas?
- How do teacher educators develop their digital skills and in what way will it contribute to the student teacher’s knowledge in teaching and learning with digital technology?
- How does teacher education address opportunities and constraints with school digitalization, including the role of education policy, national differences and the digital transformation of the surrounding community?
