Record-breaking crowd welcomes spring
On Walpurgis Night, Tuesday 30th April, the arrival of spring was celebrated in Hälsoparken. For the second year running, the festivities were co-organized by Jönköping University (JU) and the Jönköping Student Union, drawing over 900 students, staff, and other Jönköping residents to gather in the spring sunshine.
Jönköping University's academic choir, JUVE, led by conductor Dan Boberg, opened the celebrations with traditional songs like "Sköna maj," "Studentsången," and "Vintern rasat." Anders Jonzon, Director of Communications at JU, was the presenter, sharing details about Jönköping's overall tradition and talked about JU:s 30th anniversary as a foundation university.
"It was a very successful event. The weather was on our side again this year, and even an hour before the event started, there were hundreds of students already gathered. When JUVE's beautiful singing began, the crowd had swelled to nearly 900 people, setting a new record," said Anders Jonzon.
Måns Svensson, the newly appointed president of Jönköping University, delivered his first spring address to the cheering crowd. The celebrations concluded with more choir singing and a speech by Jose Alvarado, president of the Jönköping Student Union. Afterward, the student union hosted activities with competitions, music, and a DJ.
