Significant increase in national applications to Jönköping University

The number of first-hand applicants to Jönköping University (JU) has increased significantly this year. In total, the number of first-hand applicants to programmes has increased by 14 per cent compared to last year. The most popular programmes for the autumn semester at JU are social work, civilekonom, and nursing. This is shown by figures from the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) after the national spring admission round closed at midnight on Monday, 15 April.

“We are pleased that the number of students choosing Jönköping University is increasing this year as well. For undergraduate programmes, the number of first-hand applicants has increased by 11 per cent, and for postgraduate programmes, the number has increased by 38 per cent. One of the areas that has had a particular increased this year are the postgraduate programmes. We see a significant increase across the entire institution, at all four schools. That so many more are applying to JU shows that our efforts to be an even more relevant and attractive institution seem successful,” says Robert Gunnarsson, Vice President for Education at Jönköping University.

In total, JU has received 26,184 applications in the national admission, of which 7,152 are first-hand applicants. This represents an increase of 12 per cent from last year. For programme students alone, the number of first-hand applicants has increased by 14 per cent, from 4,448 to 5,075. New this year, among other things, is a master's programme in Cybersecurity at the School of Engineering, which has 61 first-hand applicants nationally. The School of Health and Welfare has two new master's programmes in Biomedical Laboratory Science with a focus on laboratory medicine and a focus on Clinical Physiology, both of which have had great interest. In summary, the number of national applicants remains stable and high, comparable to the years before the pandemic.

Increase for the vocational education (YH)

JU also offers higher vocational education (YH) in several areas and can see an increase for the YH programmes offered this year, a total of 1,163 applications have been received.
