Nursing programme meets quality standards according to UKÄ

The Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ) has conducted a thematic evaluation of the nursing programme at the School of Health and Welfare, Jönköping University. Many actions that are both reasonable and appropriate have been implemented to strengthen, develop and quality assure the nursing programme, reads UKÄ's statement.

The evaluation in question focused on how the School of Health and Welfare creates good conditions for nursing students to achieve skills and abilities as well as the opportunity to achieve the degree objectives. This includes ensuring the conditions in the form of competence supply, clinical placements, and supervision during clinical placements.

The evaluation also focused on how the School of Health and Welfare creates good conditions for students to achieve skills and abilities. Specifically, they looked at the two degree objectives to:

• demonstrate the ability to identify care needs independently and, in collaboration with the patient and relatives, draw up a nursing plan, as well as provide care and treatment.
• demonstrate the ability to work in a team and collaborate with other professional groups.

The report states that the assessment group from UKÄ believes that the School of Health and Welfare has implemented many measures to further strengthen, develop, and quality assure the programme.

“It is very gratifying that UKÄ sees that the measures we take at the School of Health and Welfare to further strengthen an already good nursing programme are both reasonable and appropriate.We work continuously to develop and quality assure our programmes, which we see a result of this thematic evaluation," says Eleonor Fransson, acting Dean and Managing Director of the School of Health and Welfare.

Thematic evaluations are one of four parts of the Swedish national system for quality assurance of higher education and research. The evaluation should contribute to important knowledge, development and national comparisons of how higher education institutions work and what results have been achieved in a specific area.
