Thomas Winman new Dean and Managing Director at the School of Education and Communication

The Board of the School of Education and Communication (HLK) at Jönköping University (JU), has appointed Thomas Winman, most recently Head of the Department of Economics and IT at University West, as Dean and Managing Director of HLK. He takes office on 1 November 2023.

Marie Öhman left as Dean and Managing Director of HLK on 31 July, and Eva Björck, Professor of special education at HLK, is acting as Dean and Managing Director until Thomas Winman takes over on 1 November.

“With his broad experience in the education sector and his knowledge from various leadership roles, I am convinced that Thomas will be an excellent Dean and Managing Director for HLK,” says Agneta Marell, President of Jönköping University.

Thomas Winman has worked for 22 years in the education sector, mostly at higher education institutions. In 2011, he earned his doctorate in pedagogy with a focus on work-integrated learning after postgraduate studies at the University of Gothenburg and University West. He became Associate Professor in 2017. He has had several different assignments as a leader and manager. The last three years, he has worked as head of the Department of Economics and IT at University West.

Within the framework of my roles in academia, I have always been interested in lifelong learning where theoretical and practical knowledge meet, challenge and develop each other. The appointment as Dean and Managing Director is for a four-year period.
