Approximately SEK 100 million for 13 Higher Vocational educations at JU
The Higher Vocational Education at Jönköping University (JU) has been granted approximately SEK 100 million to start 13 educational programmes this autumn. The decision was announced by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Vocational Education (HVE) on Tuesday 19 January.
“This is a very good result for us, says Mats Kihlman,” Head of Department for Vocational Education at the School of Engineering.
Twelve of the granted Higher Vocational Educations belong to JTH and one of them to the School of Health and Welfare at JU. This gives JTH an approval rate of 80 percent for the programs applied for, compared to the nation's average of 33 percent. The Swedish National Agency for HVE gives approximately SEK 94 million to the educations at JTH and just under SEK 5 million to the education at the School of Health and Welfare. Two of the educations at JTH are new: Electrotechnician and Production management industrial manufacturing with wood.
“All the educations are in great demand by the regional business community and it is gladdening that we have been granted them,” says Mats Kihlman.
The Higher Vocational Education at JTH will run two of the educations (Production Development and Process, and Automation Engineer) in association with the education and research center Epic in Växjö. Mats Kihlman is happy about the opportunity to be able to supply competence in a larger part of Småland and sees great potential in a long-term collaboration in the Växjö region. He is very proud of the opportunity to start 13 Higher Vocational Education educations this autumn.
“We have for a long time conducted a systematic collaboration with companies and industry organisations in the region to have a close collaboration with them and contribute to the supply of competence in the regions,” says Mats Kihlman.
All granted Higher Vocational educations at JU are based on specific competence needs of employers in the region, who have been involved in developing the structure and content of the educations. A Higher Vocational educations education provides in-demand and tailored skills for the working life, Mats Kihlman emphasizes.
