Research Themes

There are three thematic strands to our research and teaching in media and communication.

First, the strategic theme of educommunication is at the core of the School of Education and Communication’s profile EduCom - educommunicating for social sustainability – a profile supporting projects and courses that challenge uneven power relations and social inequalities within digital communication and teaching and learning.

Second, the theme of sustainable digital media and communications investigates digital activism, environmental communication and eco media studies.

The third theme addresses media engagement and participation in public and popular spheres, including media industries and audiences, digital citizens and streaming platforms.

Environment and Infrastructures

Located in the heart of Jönköping on the great lake of Vättern, media and communication is situated in a purpose built campus, with up to date production and artist studios and digitally equipped classrooms. There is a central library with dedicated staff to help with archives and literature and environmental communal spaces, including access to a roof top garden, orangery, and lakeside activities. Jönköping University has a Gränna Campus where we offer PhD summer residential courses on theory and methods.
