Alumnus of the year at JTH keep learning how to learn

Joakim Wahlqvist, CTO Data & AI for för Sogeti Data & AI Global Portfolio, was awarded the Alumnus of the Year award at the School of Engineering (JTH), Jönköping University (JU) on 3 October.

“Very gratifying and a great honour. I have many positive memories from JTH,” he says.

Joakim Wahlqvist was one of five earlier students at JU who were honoured during the alumni ceremony, which was held at Jönköping International Business School and could be viewed online. He has got both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from JTH, in information technology 2001–2004 and internet technology 2004–2005.

“Brings back many memories”

“I think about my years at JTH every week basically, so it's very nice that the school thinks of me too and that I get to receive this award. I liked it at JTH, and it brings back many memories and feelings to be here again. I have walked these corridors many times and met many friends. We are seven or eight people from our student days who still see each other a couple of times a year. I was very active in the Student Union and helped run associations, started associations and organized student parties,” says Joakim Wahlqvist.

"Keep learning how to learn"

He enjoys his work at the global IT consulting company Sogeti and is passionate about the combination of deep technology and business development, how to create business value with technology.

“My guiding principle is to keep learning how to learn. With the kind of job I have, leading a technology area, you have to keep up with new technology to understand what's going on. At JTH, I created a basis for thinking logically and communicating around technology and logic,” says Joakim Wahlqvist.

Ingrid Wadskog, Managing Director and Dean at JTH, congratulated Joakim Wahlqvist on the award and was glad that JTH was the starting point of his fine and long career, which is far from over.

"I am convinced that you will continue to develop and hope to see you at JTH in various collaborations in the future so that we can work together for a better society, she says.

The other former students at JU who were awarded the alumni of the year were: Anne-Marie Suutari, School of Health and Welfare, Emil Jungåker, School of Education and Communication, Jonas Deichmann, Jönköping International Business School and Melis Degerli, Jönköping University Enterprise.
